Kalidasa Mahakavi as evidence
Kalidasa is one of the greatest poets in world literature and is celebrated not only in India but also by scholars across the globe. Revered as Kavikulaguru (the preceptor of poets), he earned widespread admiration for his literary genius. He is also traditionally credited with authoring an astrological treatise titled Jyotirvidabharana.
In this work, Kalidasa states that both he and the renowned astronomer Varahamihira were members of the court of Emperor Vikramarka. According to the traditional account, Emperor Vikramarka ruled from Ujjain as his capital in 57 B.C., exercising authority over several subordinate kings.
The Vikrama Era, which commenced in 57 B.C., continues to be widely followed in many parts of northern India even today. Based on this chronology, it is inferred that the period of Yudhishthira dates to 3076 B.C.
Kalidasa also mentions the period during which he composed his works as follows:Slo :
वर्षैः सिन्धुरदर्शनाम्बरगुणैर्याते कलौ सम्मिते।
मासे माधवसंज्ञिके च विहितो ग्रन्थक्रियोपक्रमः॥
Jyotirridabharanam (22-22).
It means to say that “My composition of the text began in the 3068 (year) of the Kali age. It came to conclusion in the month of Karthika as said by him. (16) Based on the Aihole inscription by Pulakeshi 1170 we come to know the definite date of Mahabharata great war as 3102 B.C. Sree S.R.
